breaking isn’t a race…it has it’s own tempo.

BREAKING NEWS.  NEWS ON BREAKING.

Breaking has been officially announced as a brand new discipline added to the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games.  It makes sense, right?  Jaw dropping power, speed, agility.  What about control, form, discipline.  It checks all boxes to be categorized as competitive sport.  We knew it was coming, and in a time when the pandemic has put the breaking community on pause, a little (big) good news has sparked conversation once again.

Dozens and dozens of shares on social media and all that comes to mind is, oh shit, Canada needs to get ready - like now.  My frantic mind races in urgency, like that call you get when you are having guests over and your house a complete mess, so you scramble to clean and tidy up.  *Marie Kondo shakes her head*

What’s needed?  Where can we improve as a country?  Who are the front runners to rep?  How does the selection process even work?  So many questions, so little answers and not enough damn funding to do what we really really want to do!

But nah - it aint gotta be that complicated.

Although the Olympics can be viewed as some of the highest level competition in the world, Breaking isn’t a race for the fastest or strongest.  It’s a pace and has its own tempo.   It’s up to us to set our own Gold Standard.

The Gold Standard is about setting your sights high and proving to yourself that it's ok to reach higher.  The Gold Standard is about fostering the next generation of superstars, professionals, and Olympians.  The Gold Standard can be reached at your own pace, as long as you keep reaching for it.

As we approach the next few years leading up to breakings inaugural year in Paris 2024, Canada has the opportunity to usher in a new league of talent that will aspire for gold in 2024.  And along the way, there will be opportunities for internal growth, career development, and translatable skills.  It also allows for our opportunity to strengthen our own collaborative network needed to support each other to build a sustainable community within Breaking.

It’s an extremely tall task, a sustainable infrastructure, but that’s our Gold Standard - and we aren’t afraid to reach for it!

What is in your way to setting your own Gold Standard?

Let us know!
